Policy & Regulation
RSS FeedsTelecom companies including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and TTSL have filed review petitions with the Supreme Court requesting for waivers on interest, penalties and interest on penalties on payments related to adjusted gross revenue (AGR). The apex court, in its ruling on October 24, 2019 had upheld DoT's definition of AGR and had allowed the department to collect the AGR related arrears from the operators within three months. The demand by DoT includes interest, penalty and interest on penalty on the outstanding amount, which amounts to Rs 926.41 billion.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked telcos to report lists of permanently disconnected mobile numbers to the regulator.

As per the government statement, the telecom service providers (TSPs) will be allowed to defer payment of the spectrum auction installments due for 2020-21 and 2021-22, either for one or both years. These deferred amounts will be spread equally in the remaining installments to be paid by TSPs. Interest as stipulated while auctioning of the concerned spectrum will however be charged so that net present value (NPV) is protected.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has advised all the telecom service providers (TSPs) to share in-building infrastructure in all government and public buildings.
