Ahead of its $4.5 billion GSM expansion tender, BSNL has pulled up private telecom equipment suppliers Ericsson and Nortel for the poor quality of their network, which has caused massive revenue loss to the PSU in the past two months. BSNL has reportedly issued instructions to both Ericsson and Nortel to resolve all problems. Till such time, it will "withhold all payments" to the vendors. Ericsson supplies intelligent networks while Nortel supplies mobile switching centres (MSCs) and home location register (HLRs) in various parts of the country to BSNL.
