Government likely to collect Rs 28.99 billion in the current financial year for expansion of telecom services in rural and remote areas

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced that it is likely to collect Rs 28.99 billion in the current financial year for expansion of telecom services in rural and remote areas. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, the government had collected Rs 21.43 billion towards the Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund. Telecom operators contribute 5 per cent of their licence fees towards the USO Fund.
