China Mobile, the country's largest mobile telecom operator, has granted a deal worth 17 million euros to French telecommunications giant Alcatel to expand GSM networks for two of its provincial operators. Alcatel will deploy GSM solutions for China Mobile in Jilin Province in the northeast and Shanxi Province in Central China to strengthen the operators' voice, GPRS and value-added services. Alcatel will also help China Mobile's Shanxi unit to enlarge the capacity of its GPRS core network, which will enable services such as internet browsing, email, powerful visual communication, and multimedia messages to up to 600,000 subscribers.
