DoT seeks legal views on impact of AGR ruling on non-telecom players

News , November 19, 2019

As per industry sources, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is seeking legal opinion on the impact of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for non-telecom players holding telecom licences.

DoT has sought views on the process to be adopted to raise demands from them for its dues.

Several companies including GAIL, Power Grid Corporation, Delhi Metro, RailTel, that are non-telcos but hold telecom licences to provide a range of offering such as internet services, national and international long-distance services and VSAT services, could fall under the DoT’s wider licence fee ambit.

As per industry estimates, non-telecom companies’ due may amount to nearly Rs 2.28 trillion, when calculated since the time of getting their respective licences.
