Vodafone Idea has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to postpone the withdrawal of interconnect charges from the planned January 2020 deadline.

As per the telco, majority of India’s mobile users are still using 2G and 3G platforms despite extensive 4G VoLTE network rollouts. Further, the company added that mobile termination is a cost-based charge and can never be zero.

However, Reliance Jio has opposed the move to postpone zero-IUC regime. Besides, Airtel has urged the regulator to defer zero-IUC regime by at least three years from the scheduled January deadline.
