As per industry sources, India’s telcos might have to pay Rs 410 billion as additional spectrum usage charges if the decision regarding the definition of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) by the Supreme Court comes in government’s favour.

One the AGR ruling comes, the Department of Telecummunications (DoT) may demand Rs 920 billion from companies as licence fees and penalties. As per the centre, AGR covers a telco’s entire revenue, while the companies claim to include only the core services.

Almost 85 per cent of the additional spectrum usage charges would be accrued from Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. As per DoT, Airtel owes over Rs 229 billion, which includes interest and penalties while Vodafone Idea Limited owes Rs 110 billion.
