BSNL may lose wireline broadband market share to JioFiber, says HSBC

As per a study by HSBC, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) may lose its wireline broadband market share due to the launch of attractive schemes by other industry players like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.

BSNL, with 57.2 per cent of the existing wireline market, is likely to get affected with Reliance Jio’s recently-launched JioFiber and Bharti Airtel’s Xstream, the study said.

However, as per the study, a price point exceeding Rs 500 a month was much higher compared to what consumers could pay for the same service via other mediums.

Further, cable operators which also provide wireline broadband connections such as Hathway might gain from the synergy with Jio’s offerings and its own last mile connectivity, HSBC said.
