Reliance announces commercial launch of its home broadband services, unveils JioFiber details
Jio has announced the commercial commencement of JioFiber, its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service, across 1,600 cities in India. The broadband service will offer speeds starting from 100 Mbps and all the way up to 1 Gbps.
Besides ultra high-speed broadband services, JioFiber comes bundled with various other related services namely, free domestic voice calling, conferencing and international calling, TV video calling and conferencing, entertainment OTT apps, gaming, home networking, device security, VR experience, and premium content platform.
Monthly plans start from Rs 699 and go up to Rs 8,499. As per the telco, even the lowest tariff offers 100 Mbps speed. Most tariff plans come with access to all the services mentioned above. Jio claims that its plans are priced at less than one-tenth the global rates.
All users get a free set-top box. An array of plans is on offer under Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Platinum and Titanium categories.
JioFiber is offering free TV sets only to customers who opt for annual plans starting from Gold and above. Jio is also offering free HD television sets under select plans and 4K set-top-boxes.
Under its ‘Welcome Offer’ subscribers will be offered a router and a 4K set top box with pre-loaded content for an upfront payment of Rs 2,500. TV sets will come with subscription of annual plans of Rs 29,988, Rs 47,988 and Rs 101,988.
As per industry analysts, Jio’s prices for the wired home broadband plans are largely comparable with rivals like Bharti Airtel, but the new entrant is offering higher speeds on starting plans and more services.
