As per a study by Gati Foundation, Dehradun-based mobile dealers extensively lack awareness about e-waste management in the city. The study reported that while 88 per cent of the dealers are unaware about extended producer responsibility (EPR), 63 per cent are not even aware about the term ‘e-waste’.

The study is based on the inputs of 16 prominent mobile dealers in the city and the audit was developed on the basis of the framework laid down by the centre under the E-waste Management Rules, 2016. More than half of the dealers in the city are still not aware of the buyback schemes of electronics manufactures, made compulsory by the Union government, as per the audits.

In their previous study, Gati Foundation reported that mobile phones form 72 per cent of the e-waste generated in the city which has no means to dispose.
