According to Counterpoint Research, Foxconn led the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) for smartphones in India during 2018, followed by HiPad and Flextronics. The three companies collectively manufactured 82 per cent of the total Indian smartphone shipments.

Foxconn held a 63 per cent market share in the EMS manufacturing segment. Xiaomi and Nokia were the primary partners for Foxconn in 2018.

Meanwhile, HiPad and Flextronics held 12 per cent and 7 per cent market share, respectively. While, HiPad’s market share was driven by Realme and Xiaomi, Huawei-HONOR dual brand led Flextronics’ market share.

Further, as per Counterpoint analysis, over 100 smartphone EMS players are manufacturing in India, pushed by the ‘Make in India’ initiative. However, very few have the scale to serve big players.

Also, the leading EMS players are transitioning from “SKD” to “CKD” to save on import duties and increase localisation.
