ICANN collaborates with NASSCOM to develop technology standards for IoT devices

News , June 19, 2019

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a global internet body has collaborated with the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) to develop identifier technology to be used for managing devices and infrastructure using the internet.

Under the collaboration, both partners will initially focus on testing the use of the domain name system (DNS) to modernise internet of things (IoT) firmware and studying how the proposed technology would be used outside a lab environment.

The initiative aims to direct people looking to update their IoT devices and infrastructure to other manufacturers or vendor in case the original seller has shut down his business.

A team of ICANN technical experts, NASSCOM's Centre of Excellence-IOT team, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad team and participants from India's Education and Research Network (ERNET) will help in the execution of the project.
