According to a study by Gartner, the public cloud services revenue in India is projected to total to $2.4 billion in 2019, an increase of 24.3 per cent from 2018. Further, India ranks among the nine countries whose growth rate in cloud services is higher than the global average growth rate (16 per cent) in 2019, though India accounts for only a 1.2 per cent revenue share in total global public cloud services.

As per the report, in spite of having a revenue base much smaller than that of mature markets, India is set to record the third-highest growth rate in 2019, after China (33 per cent) and Indonesia (29 per cent). The survey establishes that 34 per cent of chief investment officers in India might increase their spending on cloud services in 2019.

Cloud application services such as software as a service (SaaS) are expected to be the fastest-growing market segment in India in 2019, accounting for about half of the total public cloud services revenue year-over-year. Revenue from SaaS is expected to increase by 23 per cent to touch $1.15 billion in 2019. Furthermore, cloud system infrastructure as a service (IaaS) spending, estimated to grow 22 per cent in 2019, fuelled by a shift from commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and licence-based on-premises software to a subscription-based SaaS model to gain agility, innovation and cost-efficiency by means of increased end-user spending on customer relationship management (CRM).

Therefore, as a part of creating a robust cyber security roadmap, Indian organisations should use technologies such as web application firewalls (WAFs), cloud access security brokers (CASBs), cloud workload protection platforms (CWPPs) and micro segmentation portals as quick options to secure cloud in their establishments, says Gartner.
