The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has asked Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) to refund its customers’ unspent balance and security deposits after it gave up CDMA spectrum and closed services in 16 circles across India.

TRAI issued a notice stating cheques to be issued to pre-paid customers equal to amounts of unspent balance in their accounts, if the value is more than Rs 10, while post-paid customers would get their balances transferred electronically into their bank accounts. This process must be completed by July 30, 2019. Further, a compliance report must be submitted by TTSL by August 20, 2019.

The company's move to discontinue services and surrender spectrum came after a deal with Bharti Airtel, as per which Airtel will take up TTSL's consumer mobile business in 19 circles, taking on a part of its unpaid spectrum liability too.
