Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are in advanced stages of testing their voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) services in the country and are expected to launch them soon.

While, Airtel is testing the service in its leading circles such as Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Jio is testing the service across Kerala, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai.

VoWi-Fi services, which are currently being offered only by over-the-top (OTT) players in India, are expected to improve connectivity in rural and remote areas which lack mobile infrastructure and increase the telecom companies’ declining revenues.
