According to a recent report by ICRA, the recent decline in the wireless subscriber base in the Indian telecommunications industry is not expected to materially impact the industry revenue potential. This decline in the subscriber base has been attributed to the introduction of minimum recharge plans by the operators over the last few months.

The report highlighted that the wireless subscriber base in the country reduced to 1,162 million in March 2019, recording a decline of 21.9 million subscribers over the previous month. However, the active wireless subscriber base did not change much, decreasing marginally from 1,023 million in February 2019 to 1,022 million in March 2019.

Meanwhile, the wireless broadband subscriber base recorded a growth of 2 per cent during the period under consideration.
