Bharti Airtel has awarded a contract to set up a blockchain based pan India network to IBM. The deployment of the network will facilitate Airtel in curbing all kinds of unwanted communication in the forms of spam calls and telemarketing messages alongside aiding its mobile number portability, supply chain streamlining, content partner settlements and interconnect settlements.

Further, the partnership will help IBM to display its prowess in the technology and its ability to effectively deal with on the ground implementation issues thereby protecting Airtels’ 284 million subscribers from pesky telecommunication.

The commercial deployment of the network is already in progress. The move comes in the wake of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) orders to reduce unsolicited commercial communication, set to come into effect by end May 2019.
