Amazon strengthens data centre infrastructure and cloud services business in India

Amazon is strengthening its data centre infrastructure and cloud services business in India.

To this end, the US-based company has infused around Rs 13.8 billion into its data centre arm in India, Amazon Data Services India (ADSIPL).

Apart from its online retail business, Amazon operates ADSIPL and Amazon Internet Services (AISPL) in India. AISPL undertakes the resale and marketing of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in India and directly competes with its China-based Alibaba's cloud services business.

The recent fund infusion could help Amazon take on the dual responsibilities of strengthening its data centre infrastructure and compete against Alibaba Cloud in the Asia-Pacific region, including India.
