According to Opensignal, 4G availability in India has been constantly rising while operators have indulged in stiff competition to provide better speeds.

In its Mobile Network Experience report, Opensignal has listed down some of the key trends in this regard.

Some highlights from the report:

4G availability in India just keeps rising. Jio's score grew to an astonishing 97.5 per cent, the highest national result we have ever recorded. But Airtel showed the greatest growth in 4G availability, as its score jumped by over 10 points to cross 85 per cent.

Airtel widened the gap on its rivals in download speed experience, increasing its winning score by more than a megabit in the last six months. But all five of India's main national operators showed fair improvement in their download speed experience scores.

Airtel also came top in our video experience analysis, as its score jumped by over 5 points to pull ahead of the pack, following a 3-way tie in our last report. And India's video experience is improving, as its top four operators now have scores in our fair category.

Jio kept our latency experience award, but we saw some impressive improvements from most operators across our latency metrics. However, latency experience was the category where we saw some of the largest variations in scores, particularly in India's regions.

India is planning to hold a 5G spectrum auction in 2019, with many operators planning commercial launches in 2020. But the huge investment needed for a nationwide rollout and the high cost of 5G devices mean it will be several years before the majority of Indians feel the benefits of the next generation of mobile technology.
