According to a report by Counterpoint Research, Apple continued to lead the global premium smartphone segment with over 51 per cent share of the market during 2018. Meanwhile, OnePlus figured in the top five companies in this segment for the first time ever during the same year, with around 2 per cent market share.

Counterpoint Research pointed out that the global premium smartphone segment grew by 14 per cent and 18 per cent year-on-year (YoY), in terms of sell-in and sell-through, respectively. This growth was driven by new launches in the premium segment by companies like Apple, Huawei, OnePlus and OPPO.

While Huawei's strong performance can be attributed to the success of the P20 and Mate 20 series, OnePlus's performance was driven by the OnePlus 6T. Meanwhile, OPPO's growth was driven by its R15 and R17 series, which performed well in the Chinese market.
