Reliance Jio might launch 5G services by the second half of 2020, says SBICap Securities

According to SBICap Securities, Reliance Jio might launch 5G services by the second half of 2020, accelerating its rollout in an effort to prevent Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel from gaining scale in 4G segment and benefitting from any 4G-led data monetisation.

As per SBICap Securities, Reliance Jio’s decision to fast-track 5G rollout is driven by the recently announced fundraising plans of Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel.

It has also been highlighted that since Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are expected to raise around Rs 500 billion from their planned rights issues and imminent (tower) asset sales, this could help the two incumbent operators to narrow the gap with Reliance Jio in 4G services in all key urban markets.
