According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) ‘Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker’ report, the volume of global smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 0.8 per cent to 1.39 billion. This would be the third consecutive year of decline in the volumes of smartphone shipments.

On the other hand, the worldwide smartphone market is expected to pick up momentum in 2019 with a year-over-year (YoY) growth of 2.3 per cent in the second half in 2019, the report said.

Further, global smartphone shipments are forecast to reach 1.54 billion units in 2023.

Meanwhile, IDC expects 5G smartphone shipments to account for roughly one out of every four smartphones shipped globally in 2023.
