Airtel’s Gopal Vittal and RJIL’s Mathew Oommen elected to GSMA board

Gopal Vittal, chief executive officer (CEO), India and South Asia, Bharti Airtel and Mathew Oommen, president, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), have been elected to the GSM Association’s (GSMA) board for 2019-2020.

Vittal and Oommen will be part of a 26-member GSMA board, which includes representatives from the world’s largest operator groups as well as smaller, independent operators with global representation.

The organisation represents more than 750 of the world’s mobile operators. GSMA also represents over 350 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors.

In addition to this, Stéphane Richard, chairman, Orange Group has been elected as chair, and Chua Sock Koong, group CEO, Singtel Group as deputy chair of the GSMA board.
