OnePlus enters the top five premium Android OEMs during Q2 2018, says Counterpoint Research

According to a recent report by Counterpoint Research, OnePlus entered the list of top five premium Android Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) globally, in the second quarter of 2018. OnePlus was one of the fastest growing brands in the $400-$600 price segment. This was primarily driven by strong sales in India, China and the UK.

The report further observed that OnePlus emerged as the number one premium smartphone OEM in India during the second quarter of 2018, with 40 per cent market share.

Globally, around 40 OEMs compete in the premium smartphone segment, out of which the top five players account for almost 88 per cent of the sales.

As per the report, Apple emerged as the leader in the global premium smartphone segment with a 43 per cent share of the segment. Apple was followed by Samsung and OPPO with 24 per cent and 10 per cent market share respectively. Apple also led the $800+ price segment with 88 per cent share during the period under consideration.

In addition to this, Apple and Samsung collectively contributed to 85 per cent of shipments in the $600-$800 price segment which were primarily driven by developed markets like the US, China, Japan, Korea and countries in Western Europe.
