Android phones to make up around 85 per cent of global market share in 2018, says IDC

According to a report by IDC, android mobile phones would make up around 85 per cent of the global market share in 2018. As per the report, the total volume of android phones is expected to grow at a five year compound annual growth rate of 2.4 per cent by 2022 with shipments totalling to 1.41 billion.

In this regard, the sales of Apple are expected to grow by 2.1 per cent in 2018 and iPhones volumes would reach 238.5 million by 2022 at a CAGR of two per cent.

According to IDC's "Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker 2018", the average selling prices (ASPs) of android phones are growing at a double-digit pace. IDC expects Android ASPs to grow by 11.4 per cent in 2018.

AS per IDC, the global smartphone market is expected to decline in 2018 and the market would experience low single-digit growth from 2019 through the end of 2022. Further, smartphone shipments are expected decline to 0.7 per cent in 2018 as compared to shipments in 2017. However, the smartphone volumes are expected to increase by 1.1 per cent in the second half of 2018.
