The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has been directed by Tata Teleservices (TTSL) to provide details of the sale of its consumer mobile business to Bharti Airtel. This direction has been made so that the DoT can find out the entity which would be held responsible for the dues that TTSL owes to the government.

According to the deal, Airtel is taking only deferred payment liabilities of Rs 15-20 billion for spectrum that TTSL bought in auctions. The DoT wants TTSL to settle its dues of Rs 60 billion before approving the deal. TTSL also wants to sell its enterprise business to the Tata group. The DoT is yet to give its approval for both the deals.

According to some estimates, TTSL’s dues to the government which includes licence fee, spectrum usage charges and one-time spectrum charge, are over Rs 100 billion.
