KaiOS, which is an operating system for smart feature phones, has received funding worth $22 million from Google. Google and KaiOS have agreed to work together to make the Google Assistant, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Search available to KaiOS users.

Earlier in 2018, the new Nokia 8810 was launched, which uses an operating system created by KaiOS. KaiOS have also partnered with Airfind, Facebook, and Twitter to enable KaiOS to offer various third-party apps on feature phones.

In India, KaiOS is used in JioPhone. Reliance Industries also bought a stake of 16 per cent in KaiOS in March for $ 7 million.

Besides, KaiOS has tie-ups with OEMs such as TCL, HMD Global and Micromax for mobile devices and carriers like Reliance Jio, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile.

The latest funding will help in speedy development and global deployment of KaiOS-enabled smart feature phones in emerging markets. Google’s apps on KaiOS would aid greater adoption of its operating system and 4G feature phones.
