BSNL manages to sustain revenues during 2016-17, despite tough competition in the sector
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reported that it expects revenue from operations during 2016-17 to be largely flat at Rs 284.77 billion, as compared to Rs 284.49 billion in 2015-16, despite a tough year of intense competition from private telecom operators. In contrast, most private sector incumbents have reported declining revenues during 2016-17.
According to the reports, BSNL is in the midst of finalising its numbers for the financial year ended March 2017 based on Indian Accounting Standards (or Ind-AS) and is also reconciling the corresponding figures for financial year 2016. The audited numbers and board approvals are expected by the end of 2017.
The full year topline numbers are buoyed by the performance across segments like mobile, broadband and enterprise. BSNL is also confident of the fact that once all the audited financial result figures are finalised, the state-run operator will be EBITDA positive for 2016-17.
