China-based smartphone manufacturer Gionee clocked $1.4 billion in revenue from India during 2016. The company has so far sold 12 million smartphones in India and expects its sales to grow 2.5 times in 2017.

Gionee operates through its two manufacturing units in India and has been continuously beefing up its brand and marketing initiatives. The company plans to establish 500 brand stores in India along with doubling its strength of retail representatives to 20,000.

Gionee also plans to locally manufacture all phones sold in India by April 2017. The company currently manufactures about 600,000 phones a month in the price band of Rs 7,000 to Rs 30,000 through contract manufacturers Foxconn and Dixon. It plans to more than double this capacity in the coming year.
