Bharti Airtel has reportedly revived its plans to sell its telecom business in the Sri Lankan and Bangladesh markets. Etisalat and Orange have reportedly shown interest in acquiring the businesses. The move is part of the company’s plans to reduce its debt and sell low-margin businesses.

Airtel intends to first demerge its tower business from its services operations and sell both the business separately. At present, Airtel owns about 2,500 telecom towers in Sri Lanka and 4,000 towers in Bangladesh. Further, Airtel has also appointed two bankers to facilitate the sale process.

The company had recently completed the sale of its tower business in five of its operational African markets to Helion Towers while the selling of tower sites in six other African markets.
