Udit Mehrotra has an interesting way of describing internet services company Spectranet. According to him, Spectranet is an innovative and disruptive technology company that aims to deliver entertainment and advantages to people by promoting greater use of the internet in their daily lives.

As chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of Spectranet, Mehrotra is focused on making his organisation the preferred choice for the delivery of internet services to businesses and home consumers by providing user-friendly, state-of-the-art services.

He states that since Spectranet has its own fibre-based network, it can offer high speed internet services to consumers through its business internet access products and data centre products offering metered power, which is a first of its kind in the industry.

Mehrotra sees the telecom sector playing a larger role in transforming and supporting the growth of allied industries, including broadband. He says, “With the growing adoption of data, internet service providers have the opportunity to contribute to the country’s overall economic growth by supporting the broadband revolution.”

In addition to leading Spectranet, Mehrotra has been one of the co-founders of Ubico Networks. He takes pride in the fact that the company, which was established in 2007, has emerged as a key provider of neutral host active and passive wireless telecom infrastructure. In addition, Mehrotra identifies his role in leading Shyam Telecom’s acquisition of a low power GSM licence in the UK in the face of major competition as another career high.

On the job front, Mehrotra likes to plan out each aspect of his work meticulously before execution. He believes in investing more time in planning and reviewing the details of the task at hand. He says, “There is a time for planning and laying out the strategy, and then for implementing it. I try and keep the two separate as far as possible so as not to lose focus on either.” He is a great admirer of Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos, finding inspiration in their pioneering thinking and ability to apply their ideas with complete commitment and passion.

A voracious reader, Mehrotra’s eclectic interests range from technology, human behaviour, consumer research and management to cartoons and superheroes. He is a self-confessed movie buff and a devoted family man. He concludes by saying, “When not at work, I am kept on my toes by my two young children.”
